NYT columnists race fixated - is that racist?

It seems in the last week that every columnist at the NYT has thrown the race issue around. There must have been a memo. The only people I ever see obsessing on the color of skin, are liberals. Read Krugman's whole post to get the context. He was basically tying Sarah Palin to racism. Krugman was making an arguably valid point. Then he had to throw in the race zinger.
PAUL KRUGMAN, NEW YORK TIMES WRITES:

But these days, insulting large blocs of Americans, implying that the rural and small-town and (ahem) white minority is the only genuine part of the country, seems to be cost-free.
